Pumpkins are popular at Halloween for soups, pies or carved as jack-o-lanterns.

IT’S Halloween – and many families will be busy carving up pumpkins.

If that’s you, make sure you save the leftover flesh.

It’s Halloween – and many families will be carving up pumpkins

Then you can try these scarily easy pumpkin recipes from food experts . . .

ABIGAIL ROBERTS (sports nutritionist at bulk.com): Pumpkin hummus is a great way to use up leftover flesh.

Thanks to chickpeas, hummus is already packed with protein and fibre, so adding pumpkin to this easy dip is a juicy bonus.

Just cut into chunks and roast, then add to the food processor with your usual ingred-ients — chickpeas, tahini, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice.

ROBERT CARTER (owner of fruit delivery company gogofruitbasket.com): Roast pumpkin seeds in the oven for ten to 15 minutes, then add a little seasoning.

It’s a tasty snack for when you’re watching a scary film.

SIGNE SVANFELDT (lead nutritionist at nutrition app Lifesum): For a healthier alternative to cakes and pies, whip up some no-bake sweet snacks.

Try 240g of pureed pumpkin with 95g shredded coconut, 4tbsp cacao powder and 2tbsp maple syrup.

You can also add chopped nuts and cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of salt. Roll into balls and pop in the fridge to snack on.

THRIFTY LESLEY (Budget food blogger): Why not make a curried pumpkin-and- coconut soup?

It’s easy to whip up a batch that serves four, for around 33p per person.

Or use the seeds to make a deliciously different sage, lemon and pumpkin-seed pesto.

Or just chop up the flesh, roast it with garlic and olive oil and toss through pasta.

GREG FRASER (founder of The Doggy Baking): Did you know pumpkin is a superfood for dogs?

It’s great for their gut health and has lots of fibre.

The seeds can be used as doggie treats, as they’re rich in magnesium.

And you can feed them steamed pumpkin.
