Wetherspoons confirms sale of popular Leith bar

JD WETHERSPOONS has put an iconic Edinburgh pub up for sale after a sewer pipe burst underneath it. The Foot of the Walk bar in Edinburgh’s Leith will be its latest bar to be sold off – as dozens remain for sale.

Sewer pipe burst causes closure and repairs

A damaged sewer pipe burst underneath the premises, forcing the pub to close for repairs. The damage was caused during building works for the nearby tram extension.

The history of the iconic pub

The former 2,000 seater Palace picture house was transformed into a Wetherspoons after a spell as a pool hall. Named after its location, the Foot of the Walk pub has been a popular spot for locals.

Wetherspoons spokesperson confirms sale

Wetherspoons spokesperson Eddie Gershon confirmed that the pub will be put up for sale, but it will continue to trade until a buyer is found.

Wetherspoons puts dozens of pubs up for sale

Last September, Wetherspoons announced that it was putting dozens of its pubs up for sale. In December, 20 pubs were listed for sale with eight already under offer. This has caused concern among fans who fear their local branches may be lost forever.

Challenges faced by UK pubs

Many UK pubs have been closing due to a turbulent economic backdrop. Increased energy and wage costs have added further pressure on businesses.

Exciting news for Wetherspoons fans

Despite the challenges, Wetherspoons continues to run sales and excite its loyal fanbase. From March 6, punters will have the chance to sample a range of 30 different real ales, including brews from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, and the USA.
