Pre-loading and installation

Xbox and Windows PC gamers are eagerly awaiting the release of Starfield, one of the biggest games of 2023. To ensure you can start playing as soon as possible and avoid spoilers, here are some important tips to keep in mind. The game has a massive file size of around 125GB, so pre-loading is crucial. If you pre-ordered Starfield via the Microsoft Store, you could start downloading it on August 17 and have it ready for launch. However, if you pre-ordered via Steam, you'll need to wait until August 31 to pre-load the game.

Early access for special editions

Starfield offers special editions, namely the Premium Edition and the Constellation Edition, which give players five days of early access. With these editions, you can start playing the game on September 1. If you're subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, you'll also have access to the game for free, but a week later. Make sure to pre-load the game if you're a Game Pass subscriber.

Playing on Xbox

If you pre-ordered Starfield from the Microsoft Store, you'll have access to both the PC and Xbox versions of the game. The pre-loading date for Xbox is also August 17. Keep in mind that the game has a hefty file size, so make sure you have enough storage space on your console, especially if you own an Xbox Series S, which requires around 50% of its storage to be available. For those who pre-ordered the Standard Edition, the access date is September 6.
