Shoppers have expressed their disappointment with Sainsbury's after the supermarket made changes to a popular booze deal just in time for the holiday season. Previously, customers could enjoy 25% off when purchasing six bottles of wine, regardless of their price. However, Sainsbury's has now raised the minimum price for eligible bottles to £6, excluding many wines priced at £5. The move has left shoppers feeling frustrated and outraged, with some taking to social media to voice their complaints.

Higher Spending Required for Discounts

Under the new rules, customers must now spend more to qualify for the discount. Previously, purchasing six £5 bottles for £22.50 would result in a £7.50 reduction. However, customers are now required to spend £27 on six £6 bottles in order to receive a £9 discount. This means that the total cost with the discount has increased from £15 to at least £18.

Shoppers Express Frustration

Disappointed shoppers have taken to social media to express their frustration with Sainsbury's. One customer suggested a simple solution, stating, "Solution – just put it up by 20p so we can then get 25% off!!" Another shopper complained about the lack of clear communication, saying, "There really should be a large notice telling customers this as it's in minute writing on a banner three feet above you! I had to put the wine back."

Deal Changes and Customer Impact

The change to the deal is believed to have taken place in July of this year, and the offer is currently ongoing until October 31. While the £6 threshold applies to customers in England, those in Wales must spend £7 to qualify for the discount. It's worth noting that the deal is not available in Scotland due to regulations that prohibit multi-buy deals on alcohol. Other supermarkets, such as Asda and Tesco, also offer similar wine deals with their own set of rules and exclusions.

Sainsbury's Response

In response to the backlash, a spokesperson for Sainsbury's stated, "Earlier this year we slightly updated the threshold for our Buy 6 save 25% promotion. Customers can still choose from an extensive selection, which includes the vast majority of our wines."

While Sainsbury's may have made changes to their popular booze deal, customers are left feeling disappointed and disgruntled, particularly during the festive season. The move has sparked a debate about the impact of such changes on consumer loyalty and satisfaction.
