Allies of Angela Rayner have issued a warning to Sir Keir Starmer, urging him not to strip the firebrand Labour MP of her power as he prepares to make changes to his top team on Monday.

Sir Keir is set to carry out a reshuffle of his shadow cabinet next week, as he enters the election year with full force.

Rayner tipped for high-profile Levelling Up role

Labour's deputy leader, Angela Rayner, is rumored to be replacing Lisa Nandy in the Levelling Up job, putting her in direct competition with the prominent Conservative figure, Michael Gove.

However, one of Rayner's allies insists that she is satisfied with her current position as Starmer's deputy, with a wide-ranging role within the shadow Cabinet Office.

"Some people are determined to bring her down," they revealed to HOAR."

They issued a warning, stating, "They might try to strike us down and find us more powerful than before."

Another Labour insider has suggested that Rayner may be better suited to the transport role, given her connections to the trade unions.

A second attempt to move Rayner

In 2021, Sir Keir's previous attempt to move Rayner didn't go according to plan and resulted in her acquiring even more responsibilities than she had before.

A Labour MP on the backbench remarked, "The big question for Keir is what is he going to do with Angela? What job does she want? What is her role in the party? We all remember what happened last time."

According to a Labour insider, Rayner herself is not the one voicing opinions about a move. They added, "What matters to Angela and her team is whether they will still have control over issues they consider important, such as workers' rights, government waste, and corruption."

Furthermore, a Labour staffer confirmed that meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday morning, including a significant shadow cabinet meeting, indicating preparations for the reshuffle are in full swing.
