Original Call of Duty: Warzone shutting down
ACTIVISION is pulling the plug on one of its free-to-play games tonight. Fans of the popular franchise have been sharing their sadness at seeing the title go. The original Call of Duty: Warzone – which was renamed Warzone Caldera – is shutting down for good so that Activision can "focus on future Call of Duty content".
All gameplay, player progression, inventories, and online services disappearing
So all gameplay, player progression, inventories, and online services will disappear. Sadly they can’t be transferred either. But any items you’ve bought in Caldera from Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard will still be available in those games.
Nostalgic feelings among gamers
Gamers have been feeling nostalgic about Caldera on social media. Many have been squeezing in a final match before it’s too late. "Last week of Warzone 1, despite our feelings toward Caldera and the design choices made throughout its lifespan I am going to miss it," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "That game was the last time I genuinely had fun with Call of Duty."
