End of an Era

Fenwick, the iconic department store located on Bond Street in central London, has launched a massive sale with discounts of up to 70%. The sale comes as the retailer prepares to close its doors after an impressive 130-year run.

Last Days of Trading?

While an official closing date has not been announced, signs indicate that Fenwick's closure may be imminent. The store has already downsized from five floors to three, with the lower ground and third floors now closed to shoppers.

Exclusive Sale

Fenwick's website has started an "archive sale" exclusively for its Bond Street location, offering customers the opportunity to snag great deals before the store closes for good.

Financial Struggles

Reports have revealed that Fenwick was making less than half the amount of its counterparts in other locations, such as Brent Cross, Kingston, and Newcastle. As a result, Chairman Simon Calver made the difficult decision to close the store.

New Beginnings

The Mayfair site where Fenwick is located has been purchased by Lazari Investments for £430 million. The new owners plan to convert the building into a "mixed-use development."

Retail Challenges

Fenwick CEO John Edgar admitted that the run-up to Christmas was challenging, but sales had picked up in the last couple of weeks. He also expressed his disapproval of the trend of Black Friday turning into Black November, stating that Fenwick does not participate in such events.

Impact on the High Street

Fenwick's closure adds to the growing list of retailers shutting down branches. Boots and Next are set to close three branches on January 13, leaving local residents devastated. However, there are still retailers, like Poundland, Iceland, Primark, and B&M, that are expanding and bringing some positive news to the high street.
